Dear Expectant Parent(s),

Our names are Dulcey and LuJon, and we would like to thank you for considering us as prospective parents for your child.  It is no coincidence that the agency we are working with is called Journeys of the Heart, for it will truly be a lifelong journey for us all, as we guide a new life along the winding path of maturity. This is a small glimpse into our world.

As an elementary school teacher, Dulcey has a natural gift with children. I have seen first hand the gentle way she has in both supporting their triumphs and explaining the nature of action and consequence. She has been nothing but supportive for LuJon as well, as he pursues his musical aspirations. She even hops on stage with the band to boogie down and coax the crowd out of their shells.  An avid gardener, she takes great pleasure in caring for our plants around the yard and enjoys spending her summers making it just that much more close to perfect. Those who get to know her find her funny and engaging, always with a story or willing to lend an ear.

LuJon has a pure and honest passion for music. He uses it as his creative outlet in life but has no aspirations to make it a career. This love for music began early in his life and although he seriously enjoys playing drums, his greatest passion is for the saxophone. In fact, he spends much of his spare time listening to and studying a variety of genres that focus on freestyle sax playing.  LuJon has a patience and gentleness that draws children and animals toward him. This is especially important as a UPS driver, where he has had to make many four-legged friends (the use of dog biscuits is also helpful). His patience and level headedness serves as a guide through most of our life experiences together.

We live in southern Washington and absolutely love living in this area of the country because it’s lush and green most of the year. In less than an hour we can visit the ocean, mountains, lakes, rivers, and the interesting cultures of big city life. Although we both love to travel, we feel like where we live now truly feels like home and we can’t wait to raise a family here. Our three-bedroom home lies in a cul-de-sac, very quiet with little traffic. Its large, private, fenced backyard is perfect for children to run and play safely. Our animal family includes two funny dogs, and three playful cats.

We have a large extended family and a richly varied social network. There are teachers, lawyers, artists, musicians, social workers, and just plain hard workers around us. Dulcey’s immediate family lives minutes away, and LuJon has relatives in nearby towns.

Dulcey’s mom, Lauren, is a birth mother of two children that were raised in adoptive families.- About 5 years ago, all of the family members were joyfully reunited.  Lauren has a lot of insight- About the tough decisions that birth parents make and has been very open with us- About her experiences. Family discussions have afforded us the unique opportunity to explore many intricate aspects of adoption, from the viewpoint of each family member.

A belief in honesty, integrity, and openness has created a strong and trusting marriage. Our ability to communicate our feelings and wishes to each other continues to strengthen our solid relationship. We make it a point each day to spend time just talking. It is one of our greatest wishes to share the love and joy we feel for each other with a child.

It is important to us that children are raised to respect themselves and others, as well as the world they live in. We want our children to know and embrace their heritage through pictures, stories, artwork, music, and anything else that may be important, especially their unique adoption story. There are several teachers on both sides of our family, so a quality education is a key focus for us. One of our cherished values is to support the dreams and goals that a child may have and encourage them to try new things. As we were both raised in loving families, we will give the same kind of unconditional love and support to our children.

Whether or not there is direct contact, we believe in open adoption; and will honestly and openly respect any decision you make regarding contact. We would be honored to be considered as potential adoptive parents of your baby and look forward to the day that we can meet you. We can only imagine how difficult it is for you to consider adoption as part of your life. It is clearly a decision that will only be made out of love, a decision that can only be respected. We appreciate the time you have taken to read- About us, and our life together. We wish you peace in your journey.

Love,

Dulcey and LuJon
