We appreciate the time you are taking to get to know our family. As we think of you, our hearts are touched that you are considering the loving but difficult choice to place your child for adoption. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We feel blessed that our family has already grown through adoption. As we have been through that process with our children’s birthparents, we have been amazed by their strength, courage, and love.

Interesting and Fun Facts About Us!

Jennis
  1. My mom taught me how to cook while I was growing up, and I became the family’s designated dessert baker. I didn’t make anything particularly fancy, but whatever I made was in large quantities to satisfy my family of 8, plus any extra friends or extended family.

  2. Now I still like to bake and enjoy cooking, but the most dreaded task of my day is deciding what to make for dinner.

  3. I have always loved reading. Sometimes I have a hard time putting a good book down (for example, when it’s time to decide what to make for dinner).

  4. I played volleyball and softball in high school. In college, I had a great time taking sports classes, including volleyball, basketball, weight training, golf, and tennis. Now I enjoy whatever chances I get to play sports—I’ve even tried a few seasons of indoor soccer.

  5. While I was growing up, I never really liked running. But Jared has helped me to learn to like it, and now that’s my favorite workout—running outside (not on a treadmill).

  6. When I have the time, I like to work on projects. I have made hand-quilted blankets, sewn princess costumes, repainted many rooms and furniture items, replaced light fixtures and door hardware, and built our kids’ play structure in the backyard.

  7. I play the piano, and have accompanied many choirs and soloists over the years. Most recently I played for our daughter’s elementary school choir, and thankfully I did well enough that she wasn’t embarrassed!

  8. I talk or text with my mom and my two sisters nearly every day.

  9. Until I was in high school, I was too afraid of heights to go on many amusement park rides. Once I tried them, I liked them… but Jared won’t go on most of them with me (because he doesn’t like heights)!

  10. When my family gets together, we often have Asian food night, and I am in charge of making the sushi. (Jared says that we should actually call it Asian day, not Asian night, since we spend most of the day cooking!)

Jared
1. I enjoy all sports, but my favorite is soccer, which I played competitively through my first year in college. Now I enjoy coaching soccer.

  2. I spent two years in South America (Uruguay) as a missionary and enjoy any opportunity I get to speak Spanish.

  3. For our first date, we went golfing, and at first I really wasn’t sure how things were going. But after golfing, the date evolved into Jennis watching my intramural soccer game, followed by dinner, followed by a dance.  Nine and a half hours later, I knew our relationship had serious potential.

  4. I would like to learn to do cross-country skiing, but for now I’ll settle for snowshoeing. I love getting a workout in the snow!

  5. I enjoy doing yard work, and my goal is to one day have a large garden and grow lots of different vegetables, and to have my kids work with me in the garden.

6. I have enjoyed taking the kids camping, and my goal is to take them camping 3-4 times each year.

  7. One of the things I enjoy doing as a parent is getting my kids the toys I always wanted to play with but never had (wooden train set with lots of tracks, real flying airplane, water powered rocket, etc.).

  8. My favorite hikes involve either a mountain or a beach; either one has a great view!

  9. I’m scared of heights and I don’t like things that spin, so if Jennis wants to go to an amusement park, she goes with one of her sisters.

  10. I have serious falling asleep skills – on a plane, in church, on the floor next to the kids’ beds, at the back of a lecture hall…  However, I also have excellent waking up skills and when our kids were babies, I enjoyed taking a turn getting up in the middle of the night with them.
