Dear Expectant
Parents,
Our names are Jason and Silke - thank you so
much for your kindness in considering us as
adoptive parents for your wonderful child. We
hope that the enclosed portfolio sheds some
light on who we are as people, what fills our
days, and has held our attention during our
lives to date.
We understand that simple
photos and words can only go so far - and look
forward to the opportunity to meet and learn
more about you, answer any questions you may
have, and hopefully give you a comfortable sense
of who we are as a couple. We can appreciate the
many challenging choices and decisions which lay
ahead for you - hopefully we can help provide
some faith and confidence in whatever choice you
ultimately make.
We've always been filled with a sense that
we were someday meant to have children. Both of
us grew up in modest yet loving, tight knit
families - understanding the value of sticking
together, working hard, nurturing, strong
relationships with those closest to us, and
being open minded to whatever came our way. This
remains the case today collectively with our
large circle of close friends and family,
regardless of distance or circumstance.
It is from this mutually
similar experience that we draw strength to
embrace our days, having built a full and happy
life together - now simply waiting for the gift
of a child to share it with.
We met 8 years ago in Germany - both on
vacations. We both settled back down in Jason's
hometown of San Diego - a diverse and dynamic
community having nearly perfect weather and
endless beaches, numerous parks, the
Zoo, Sea World, LegoLand and Wild Animal Park;
there's never a lack of something to do or see.
Jason works as a private banker 10 minutes north
of home, allowing Silke to remain home,
exploring her hobbies (gardening, cooking and
photography), while also taking care of our two
dogs.
Both of us have traveled extensively - Jason has worked in
various parts of California - and even lived for
a short time in both Japan and Sweden. Silke
Completed vocational studies in her home country
of Germany as a fashion merchandiser, while
Jason's banking career was preceded by attending
high school and university in San Diego. Silke
helps coordinate a busy schedule of visits from
family and friends (those living here and
abroad), while Jason spends his time helping the
unemployed, homeless, and those simply down on
their luck, in his role as a board member for a
local non-profit agency.
Aside from that, we're like most here – spending
free time riding bikes, playing golf, running
with our dogs at the beach, going to Padres
games, walking The park, traveling (when we
can), and trying our hand at new recipes.
While Silke's family lives abroad, we're
never more than a month or so without seeing one
or more of them. She comes from a large family
(7 kids in total - plus nearly 30 more when
counting nieces, nephews, etc), so annual visits
to Germany are the norm, with several visits
from them, as well. Jason's father and youngest
sister lives in San Diego, with his mother,
cousins and aunts within a couple hours drive
(Santa Barbara, CA).
Jason is also very close to a
tight knit circle of friends from his university
days - some of whom live in San Diego, the rest
in San Francisco.
We also spend time pampering our two dogs,
Emma and Spencer. Both are gentle, thoughtful
and extremely sleepy/lazy dogs that further make
our house a home.
We want you to know that we'll
raise our children with love, devotion and
attention - providing them the guidance and
support to lead full lives, with confidence,
love and compassion. We are filled with awe and
humility of the love you have for your child,
and your consideration towards adoption. We
realize the enormity of your selflessness,
courage and generosity in your choice of
adoption.
Please know that we both embrace open
adoption, encouraging your involvement ensuring
your child knows he or she is loved by you -
your presence will always be honored and welcome
in our home.
