Dear Expectant Parents

We are Mark and Susie.  We would like to take this chance to thank you for looking through our portfolio and we hope that you can begin to get to know who we are and how much love and stability we have to offer.  We can only imagine what an emotional and stressful time this is for you and we hope that this letter and portfolio will help you begin to know us and we look forward to meeting you in person as you continue to make an adoption plan for your baby.

We live in northwest Washington and we love our community because of the lush green beauty of the northwest and the many wonderful experiences and sites we have access to, being close to the beautiful cities of Seattle and Tacoma.   We chose the area we live in because it allows us to be close to our places of work, it has a smaller town community feel, and we have wonderful friends and neighbors after having lived in this area for over twelve years.  We live in a beautiful family oriented neighborhood and participate in frequent gatherings in our safe cul-de-sac to watch, laugh, and play with the neighborhood kids.  We live close to schools, playgrounds, and nature trails that we currently enjoy with our dogs Cole and Boo.

We were introduced to each other on a blind date at Mark’s god-sons hockey tournament whose parents happened to be close friends to each of us individually.  We knew immediately that we had found something really special in each other.  We have been together for eight years and married for six years and we still get excited to see each other every day after work and sometimes can’t wait all day and meet for lunch or coffee to make the day go faster.

Mark owns and operates a product and service business that he has been committed to for 14 years. Mark is a very caring boss and gives his heart to his work and employees.  Mark has one brother and parents in eastern Washington that we visit for horseback riding, catching up and good food.

Susie is a Physical Therapist and works for a skilled nursing facility near their home.  She has a soft spot for the elderly and enjoys helping them regain their independence.  Susie has a sister and step-brother who provide us with three wonderful nephews that all think that the sun rises and sets on their Uncle Mark.  Susie’s sister is expecting a baby girl in December and is thrilled that we plan to adopt a baby in the near future so they can grow up together.  Susie’s parents live close in southern Washington and we see them often for long weekends, holidays, and just any excuse we can think of to get together.  They can’t wait for the addition of a baby in our lives and have already built and elaborate play land in their backyard and passed on a baby quilt that Susie’s great grandmother made.

We both enjoy the outdoors and find activities to share with our two dogs that include hikes, runs, swimming and just enjoying the beautiful area we live in.  We also enjoy movies and love having movie night in our home with our sweats on, dogs by our side, and cats in our lap.  We make time to entertain family, friends and neighbors in our home and travel to see them when they can’t come to see us.  We enjoy traveling and try to get away to a tropical destination at least once a year to enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.  Mark studied Spanish in college and enjoys visiting Mexico to try and keep up his ability to speak the language.

Susie plans to be a stay at home mom, finding opportunities to continue her work on an on-call basis when Mark can be home with the baby.  Mark has been building his business so that when a baby enters our lives, he can work some hours from home and be readily available to help since his business is less than ten minutes away.

We are excited about adoption because we know that sharing our love and our lives with a child will complete us as a family and because it has always been our dream and plan to live our lives for someone other than ourselves.  We know we can provide love and stability to a child and will work hard to provide the opportunity for knowledge, experience, fun, and kindness.  It is important to us both to be kind, understanding, sharing people who make every attempt to contribute to those in and out of our lives and to leave every situation better than we found it whenever possible.

We are excited about an open adoption because we know how important our ties are with our families, who are in our case our birth families, and we know that this will be important to every child and parent.  We can only imagine how difficult this decision is for you and that trusting your child with us to care for and love will hopefully be easier knowing that we all embrace a lifetime of interaction. We are so excited to meet you and begin a lifelong relationship so that we can all share in the life and experiences of your child.

We so appreciate you and the time you are taking to consider us.  It warms our hearts to know that you are making a decision that you have found is best for you and your baby and that regardless of who you decide on to adopt your child, that there will be a joy filled couple in the world that could not have been a complete family without your decision.  We both firmly believe that only the really strong people in the world find a way to make the best out of really tough situation, and that if you are reading this and even considering trusting another couple to parent your child then you are one of these strong people that make the world a better place.

Thank you!

Mark and Susie
