Dear Expectant Parent(s),

Thank you very much for taking the time to meet us.  We are Mike and Dawn from Illinois.  We would like to introduce you to our family: our son, Tyler, and our dog Snickers.  We admire the courage, strength and love you are showing by doing what you believe is best for you and your baby.  We understand that it is very difficult decision to choose the right family for your baby and wanted you to know how much love we have for another child.

Let us tell you a little about ourselves:

We met thirteen years ago and have been married for 8 years.  As a couple, we compliment each other in many ways.  Mike is logical and intuitive, where as Dawn is kindhearted and optimistic.  We are best friends and love and respect each other’s company.  We love to travel and have seen the Canadian Rockies by train, visited the home of Beethoven in Austria and seen the animals at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego. We like to explore and try new things in the area.  We have a warm home filled with love, laughter and occasional barking.   We adopted our son, Tyler in 2007 and we feel blessed to have him in our lives.  We are a fun, happy and loving couple looking forward to expanding our family and welcome another child with open arms and open hearts.

A little about Mike:

Mike is outgoing, adventurous, fun-loving and a dedicated father.  He grew-up in the Chicago area with his dad, mom, sister and brother.  His sister lives in Indiana with her husband and three children.  His brother lives in the Chicago area with his wife and three children.  His mom lives nearby and visits often.  Everyone is excited about having a new cousin in the family.  Mike loves to “play cars” with his son, chase the dog around the backyard, travel, running, volleyball and any kind of outdoor activities.  Mike has a degree in Electrical Engineering and works for a telecommunications company designing computer chips.

A little about Dawn:

Dawn is friendly, more reserved then Mike, caring, patient and involved mother.    She grew up in a small central Illinois town, where everyone knew your name, with her brother and parents who have been married now for over 40 years. Dawn loves to build things with her son, travel, volleyball, take walks with her son and dog, try out new recipes and read a good mystery book.  She works part-time from home, which will allow plenty of time to go to the park, on play dates, music class or mini-gym, coloring and make fun craft projects.

A little about Tyler:

We welcomed Tyler into our family in November 2007 and it has been an awesome adventure.  Tyler loves to play with his cars, build things with blocks, color, tug rope with the dog and read books.  Tyler is a smart, well adjusted happy little man.  Tyler is easy going and loves to play with other children.  He cannot wait to be a big brother.

A little about our town, home, family and free time:

We are lucky to live in a suburb annually voted one the most family friendly communities in the nation, with top rated schools.  We have a large home with plenty of space for another child to have his or her own room.  We have a fenced in backyard where a child can play in the sand box, slide down the slide, enjoy lunch outdoors and plenty of room to kick the ball, play fetch with the dog or just run around and be a kid.  In our living room, a child can learn the ABC’s, 123’s, color, build items with blocks, cook on the pretend grill or just relax and read books.  Our neighborhood has lots of children to play with, an annual Easter egg hunt, block party that includes kid friendly games and a beautiful park with a playground.

We are fortunate that Dawn is able to work part-time from home, which will allow her to be home with the children all day and Mike has very flexible work hours and 4 weeks of vacation which leaves us with plenty of family time. We are very close to our extended family and they are very open and supportive to us building our family through adoption.  Everyone is within driving distance, so we visit often.   As a family we like to attend the local minor league baseball games, zoo, and various festivals throughout the area or just relax and enjoy our Sunday morning pancake breakfast in our pajamas.  On weekends we visit with friends and their children for play dates, go to museums, or just enjoy a good cookout. We like to visit the local farmers market, pumpkin farm to get our pumpkin for carving, go on a hayride, and enjoy a cup of hot apple cider and slice of pie.  During the holidays, we pick a weekend to put the tree and lights up.   Everyone in our neighborhood puts lights on their park way trees and it makes for a wonderful holiday scene.   Then we plan a weekend to spend with Mike’s family in Indiana, (no cooking for Dawn) and a weekend with Dawn’s family at our house (lots of cooking for Dawn).

In closing:

If you feel we are the right family for your child we want you to know that we will give your child unconditional love, happiness, opportunities, respect, and a sense of self.  Your child will always know of the courage and love you feel for him/her.  This is a life-long commitment that we are welcoming with open arms.  We understand that you may not know what type of relationship you want right now and that it could change over time.  We are open and flexible to making this a very comfortable experience for you, including visits, pictures and letters.  We want you to know how wonderful your child is doing.  Thank you for taking the time to consider us.  Our thoughts are with you as you make this brave and loving decision.

We wish only the best for you and your child.
