Dear Expectant Parents,
Our names are Tim and Devon. Thank
you so much for taking the time to read this letter and
review our portfolio. We are honored that you are
considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We
admire the incredible act of selfless love that you are
considering and we are confident we could provide a
stable, loving home for your child. We can only
imagine how challenging this decision must be for you
and we wish you peace as you move through this process.
We are a healthy, happy couple
who greatly desire to raise a child. We live in a
city in Oregon
and love it here for many reasons. We like the
proximity to the ocean and the mountains which allows us
to spend time outside doing many of the outdoor
activities we enjoy. We also love having access to many
cultural events and time with friends and family that a
city life can provide. We live in a great old
neighborhood with a lot of children on our block and two
nice parks within a few blocks of our home.
We are married and have been
together for 15 years. We are very much in love
and committed to our life together. We met in a
café, surrounded by more than a dozen mutual friends,
and instantly fell into a very comfortable conversation
that lasted for hours. We noticed in listening to
each other, that we were similar in our commitments to
spend time with friends and family, and in our love of
travel and exploring new things. We admired each
others strengths and our ability to express our feelings
and ideas. This blossomed into friendship, dating, and
then marriage.
Tim is a software engineer who
has worked on some cool projects over the years such as
creating an electronic medical records system and
designing some technology for hybrid cars and airplanes.
Devon
is a mental health and addictions therapist who is
currently managing a team of counselors in an outpatient
clinic where she has worked for many years.
We are an active couple who
love to travel and have a passion for visiting tropical
places, snorkeling, and sailing. We love hiking in
the countryside near our home and going for long walks
in our neighborhood. We enjoy watching sports, our
favorites being baseball and football. We also
take pleasure in our time at home. It’s been fun fixing
up our home and yard, where we enjoy spending time with
our friends, family, and neighbors as much as possible.
Our home is warm and welcoming and the place we most
love to be. Devon has a
love of decorating and spends a lot of time painting and
furnishing the house and making it comfortable. Tim
likes to barbecue and enjoys watching sports with his
friends. We also enjoy watching movies and going to
plays. Devon enjoys
spending time reading, gardening and doing photography.
Tim enjoys reading, playing tennis and basketball, and
scuba diving when he can.
We have four cats that continually
make us laugh and bring us much unconditional love.
We both grew up with pets in the home and it’s hard to
imagine our home without pets underfoot. We look forward
to introducing a child to our sweet cats.
One of our daily traditions is
to eat meals together at the table as it allows us to
spend quality time together and stay connected in each
others daily lives. We also try to share meals
with family and friends as much as possible.
Some of our holiday traditions
include spending each Thanksgiving with a group of
friends and then spending Christmas with family.
We spend the Holidays in
Colorado
with family every other year and spend the alternate
years at home. We plan to continue this tradition
as we believe it allows us the best of both worlds. We
love spending time with family in their homes and we
also love spending time with family in our home.
Each Christmas, we enjoy an ornament exchange with
family and try to take in at least one
Holiday
event in the city such as a play or the ballet. We look
forward to raising a child and starting some new
traditions. We also have a large gathering at our
home each year during the Holiday Season for friends and
family. We have been having this event each year for
more than 10 years.
Each year, we try to travel to
somewhere we’ve never been before and explore a culture
that is different from our own. This helps us be more
knowledgeable of the world and gives us something
wonderful to look forward to during the year. We look
forward to traveling with a child and giving him or her
the opportunity to see other parts of the world.
We are very excited to adopt a
child and look forward to starting the next chapter in
our lives. Early on in our relationship we decided
that if we were going to raise children, we would grow
our family through adoption when the time was right.
We have a very strong marriage and feel we could provide
a loving, safe environment to raise a child. We
have a solid support system, rich with family and
friends, and believe we are at a point in our lives
where we will be good parents.
We hope to provide your child
an environment where he or she will learn and grow and
be a strong, well-rounded person. Your child will be
loved and cared for. We promise to raise and educate
your child to the best of our ability. We will nurture
your child and provide for his or her needs and good
health.
The things we value most in our
lives are not really things—relationships are what we
value most; our marriage, our family, our friends, and
our pets. At the end of the day, we know that
these are the things that really matter to us and we
look forward to growing a family. We also value
education, our work, and helping others in our
community.
We are blessed to be in a
financial situation where one of us will be able to stay
home with your child until he or she goes to school.
Devon
plans to leave her work and stay home. She will return
to part-time work when your child goes to school.
Tim has the luxury of working at home a couple of days a
week which will minimize commute time and allow for more
time with family. We have many friends and family
members in the area who have offered to help out as much
as needed. We are grateful one of us can stay at home
with a child.
We are very interested in open
adoption and believe it is what is best for an adopted
child. We want you to know your child, and we want
you to have a life-long relationship with him or her. We
also want you to know that your child is loved and
provided for. We hope to establish a plan together that
will be comfortable for you. We will approach our visits
with an open heart and try to set aside our own fears
and insecurities in the hope of doing what is best for
your child. We will listen to your stories as they
will become a part of your child’s story as well.
We are honored that you are taking
the time to look at our book and to read this letter. We
have created a brief storybook of our life together and
hope you will take a moment to read through it. We wish
you the best in this situation and will respect whatever
decision you make. Our hearts go out to you.
Tim and Devon
