The Journeys of the Heart Adoption Education class is held over a two day period, four times a year (or six times a year in Chicago), and is mandatory for JOH families. Separate classes are offered for families in the international and domestic programs. Classes are held in  Portland, Chicago, and occasionally Seattle.   Clients who live outside of these states will receive DVD's of the class.

Classes are fully Hague compliant: Classes are based on the 2007 Hague accreditation process.

Journeys' education classes are conducted by our professional program staff and guest speakers.  A  variety of issues are covered such as attachment and bonding, health and developmental concerns, cultural awareness, racial identity, open adoption options, support groups, recommended reading, and continuing education.

There is a fee for the class and registration is required. Participants must rsvp for the class, and either be JOH clients (with their application submitted), or make special arrangements to take the class.
