Dear Expectant Parent,

Thank you for taking the time to consider us as potential adoptive parents for your baby.  At this time of your life, we can only begin to imagine the hard decisions you must make.  We look forward to explaining a little bit about ourselves so you can make a loving and caring decision for your baby.  First, we’ll introduce ourselves… we are Neil and Rebecca.

We first met our sophomore year of high school in choir class.  We were friends through out high school and started dating three years after we graduated.  Knowing each other for six years before dating allowed us to build a strong foundation of respect and trust.  After dating for two and a half years, we got engaged.  We have now been married for 11 wonderful years.

Our home… Born and raised in the Portland area, Neil is a native Oregonian and has lived in the Portland area his whole life.  Rebecca was born in New Mexico and moved seven times before entering high school.  Living in Oregon for the last 19 years, she is now a true Oregonian.

We both love living in Oregon because of the green trees, the coast and our family members who live near us.  We look forward to raising a child in the Northwest near family and close friends.  We live just miles with in shopping malls, family fun centers and out door parks.  We live only an hour and a half drive away from the Oregon Coast and only a two-hour drive away from Mt Hood.

We bought and still reside in our first home purchased in 1999.   Our home is a two-story house in a kid friendly neighborhood.  We live within walking distance of an elementary school located in a top rated school district.  A park is across the street from our home and we have a large back yard with lots of tall trees.  Our home has three bedrooms, two of which are perfect for a little ones room.  Our home is warm, friendly and spacious.

Our family… Our parents live at the Oregon Coast, which is about an hour and a half drive from where we live.   Only living an hour and a half away allows us to maintain a close relationship with them.  Some of our family traditions include going trick-or-treating with our nieces and nephews, trips to the Oregon Coast to visit our parents and playing board games or cards.

Neil’s older brother and sister-in-law live near us and we get to see them often.  A few of our activities, with them, include a dinner out or a relaxing evening at their house.  His brother and sister-in-law have four kids; so one of our favorite activities is hanging out with them and their children.  Rebecca has an older brother as well who lives in Tampa Florida.  Her brother and sister-in-law have two adopted daughters.

We have ten nieces and nephews ranging from age one to seven; most of them live with in 15 minutes of our home, which allows us to frequently spend time with them for birthdays, holidays and special outings.   Each of them is excited with the prospect of us bringing another baby into our family to love.

Our sweet doggies… We have two Pomeranian dogs (Coco and Shandel), which we love very much.  They each are valued members of our family.  We go on walks together, cuddle together and play ball.  Coco isn’t much into playing ball, but Shandel loves it.

Our education… We are firm believers in higher education.  Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Management and Neil has recently returned to college to earn his bachelors degree in Business as well.

Our work… Rebecca has worked in the credit union industry for 14 years.  She is currently the Branch Manager of one of the largest branches in the organization.  After 10 years of working in the high tech industry as a buyer, Neil transitioned to working for the largest electronic retailer in the world.   We both enjoy our jobs because of the opportunity to help others.

Our passions…While Neil likes to work in the yard and read, Rebecca likes to exercise and spend as much time as possible with nieces and nephews.   We both spend a lot of time hosting our nieces and nephews at our house, which has better prepared us to be parents.  Our nieces and nephews frequently refer to us as their favorites because of the fun activities we plan for them when they visit.  A few of the fun activities include tea parties, going to a movie, taking them to the park for a picnic or walking our dogs.  They also look forward to returning the favor by helping us when we are able to bring a baby home.

Although we enjoy going on special outings and spending time with friends and family, we also enjoy time at home watching TV, playing board games or reading.  We have been on several special vacations together, which we enjoy.  A few of our best trips include a trip to Disneyland, a trip with extended family to Japan and another trip with close friends to Hawaii.

As parents… We are both excited to extend our family through adoption and create an open relationship with you.  We feel it’s important for the child and birthmother to grow up knowing each other and having a relationship with the child and our family.  We believe there are kids who need a home and we will work hard to prepare and provide a healthy and safe home for a child.

As parents, our role will be to raise the child to be their own person.  We will focus on encouraging the child to discover who they were born to be instead of what we want them to be.  We feel strongly about open adoption.  An adopted child knowing their birth parents and adoptive parents while growing up allows them a deeper understanding of self and their history.  We would encourage and support the communication and relationship with you as the birth parents and our family.

We know you are making a difficult decision and we respect your desire to do what’s best for your baby. We are supporters of open adoption and look forward to embracing you into our lives.  We will respect and honor you in our homes and would love to include you in the child’s life over the years.

Sincerely,

Neil and Rebecca
