In the word's of one Journeys of the Heart Birth Mother:

“I was scheduled for an abortion.  I went to the appointment and they decided to do an ultrasound to confirm how far along I actually was.  To my surprise, I was already 13 ½ weeks.  I could have still have had the procedure done.  I watched the ultrasound and my heart just sank.  I told the nurse that I would have to cancel because I could not go through with it.  I could not terminate this child.  I also knew I couldn’t raise this child, either.

As you see, we as women go through so many trials and tribulations.  It is up to us to make the right decisions for ourselves.  I know as a parent I am making the right decision, not only for me, but for the child involved.

Most importantly, with adoption I am giving the gift of life.”

Meet our professional staff!

Hi, I am Kimberly Sprecher, Domestic Program Coordinator at the Journeys' home office.  Let me tell you how we can help you.

If you choose adoption, Journeys of the Heart Adoption Services can:

  1. Help you look at the type of adoption you want for your baby. This ranges from very open, where you may have visits with the child, to closed, where there is no contact. There are many possibilities in between. YOU DECIDE what fits your situation.
  2. Give you a selection of families to choose from so you can make the right choice for you and your baby. Have you wondered, before, if there is an adoptive family for your baby?  The families have all exceeded our standards in terms of having the financial, emotional and physical ability to do an excellent job of raising your child. If you have chosen an open adoption, you'll probably want to start developing a relationship with the adopting parents.
  3. If you have financial needs, we'll give you financial assistance for living and medical expenses relating to your pregnancy. We don't want you to worry about paying for things you need during this time.
  4. Assign you a kind and understanding staff member who will become like a good friend. She is the person who makes sure you'll have what you need.
  5. Help you to anticipate and deal with the emotions you may feel before and after the birth of your child.
  6. Provide counseling -- you decide if you want or need it. We will provide it prior to the birth and after for as long as you want it.

Why Choose Adoption?

  1. You will be giving your baby a gift - the gift of Life which is the greatest gift one can give. You are the only person who can do this.
  2. If you wish, you will be able to stay in touch with your child and the adoptive parents which will reassure you that your child is happy and will cared for. If you choose to have contact with your child, the visits with the child and the adopting parents will allow for a continuous relationship where your child is assured of your love.
  3. You will be giving your child great opportunities (such as financial stability, a two-parent family, a college education) that you may be unable to provide.
  4. You will be giving yourself the opportunity to realize your full self potential. You will be able to continue on with your life and work on your dreams.
  5. You help fulfill the dreams of a couple that is unable to conceive a child. You will give them the gift of their lifetime, the chance to adopt a baby.

I am here for you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Call me at 1-800-876-0575 or email me, Kimberly@journeysoftheheart.net

With Love!

Kimberly

Domestic Program Coordinator

Hi, my name is Ann Du Waldt

I am the Domestic Adoption Coordinator for the Journeys of the Heart Chicago area office.

I can only imagine what is going through your head as your mind swirls through the choices you will have to make in the upcoming months.  I want you to know that you do not have to go through it alone.  If you choose, I can be there to help you to look at your alternatives.

If adoption is the choice you make, I will be the neutral and reliable support throughout the entire journey.  I will provide you with emotional support: help you to find counseling, if you want, and adequate health care.  I will guide you through the legal policies in Illinois and can (if you choose) be there for the birth of your baby, and be an advocate for you, working to help labor and delivery proceed as you would like.

When the time comes to choose a family for your baby, you will go through portfolios that prospective adoptive parents have put together for you to get to know them.  These families have been completely screened by Journeys of the Heart – everything from criminal and medical records to their actual home.  You can look through all of this information and pictures of their lives.  We will set up a meeting with the couple if that’s what you want.

By deciding to work with me there is no pressure on you at all.  You cannot sign legal adoption documents until after your baby is born.

Please come to me to help you with the tough decisions that lie ahead.  Adoption may be the right choice for you.  It is perhaps the hardest, but most unselfish and loving act that an expecting parent in your situation can make.  To completely love your child is to do what is best for them.  Let’s make that a possibility.

You can call me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I can be reached by calling 1-800-876-0575.  As soon as you call, we will meet and discuss what you think is best for you and your baby.

Call me at 1-800-876-0575 or email me ann@journeysoftheheart.net  I am here for you 24 hours a day, every day.

Love.Ann

Ann Du Waldt
Domestic Program Coordinator

Hi!  My name is Kristi and I am Journeys’ Domestic Adoption Coordinator in the Seattle office.

I counsel birth parents and facilitate adoptive placements in Washington.

As I have worked with birth parents for the past nine years, I have seen how isolating and difficult it can be to make a decision about a pregnancy alone.   It can be a huge relief to talk to someone who truly cares and who can remain neutral in the decision-making process.  If you would like to talk about your options, you are welcome to call me anytime and I will be happy to meet with you wherever you are most comfortable.  It will always be my hope to provide a safe space for you to reflect on your options as you decide what is best for you and for your child.

If you decide that you want to create an adoption plan for your baby, I will be here to support you throughout the rest of your pregnancy and after placement.  If you need help locating services such as medical or counseling services, I will do my best to find good resources for you, and will accompany you to any appointments you’d like.  When you are ready to find out about prospective adoptive families, I will facilitate your first meetings or conversations with them, and support you in choosing the best family for your baby.  Together, we will create a plan for your hospital experience that allows you to spend as much or as little time with your baby and with the adoptive family as you want.  After placement, you can be in contact with me for as long as it is helpful to you – you will always be welcome to touch base whenever you feel you could use extra support!  Though placing a baby with another family is probably the most difficult thing you may ever do, I often say that I could never do this work if I did not see the beautiful, lifelong connections that happen between birth parents, adoptive parents, and adopted children.  I see this help birth parents to mend even as they grieve.

At Journeys of the Heart, it is very important to us that birth parents and adopted children remain connected in healthy ways, whether it be in person, by letters and pictures, or by the adoptive parents simply sharing positive information about their child’s birth parents and adoption story throughout his or her life.  We do our best to honor the unique needs of each adoptive and birth family as we create communication plans for the future.

If you want to talk with me right away, I am available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-876-0575, or you can email me at Kristi@journeysoftheheart.net.  You deserve support and respect as you make this difficult decision about what is best for your baby, and I look forward to talking with you.

Love,

Kristi
