Dear Expectant Parents:
Thank you for the
opportunity to introduce ourselves and share a bit- About our lives. We
are Tim & Marie. We are so excited to embark on this journey of becoming
parents. We want you to know how much we admire your strength and
courage as you consider adoption for your child. We hope this letter
will give you a glimpse into our lives and what life for your child
would be like with us.
We have been
together for 18 years. We met at our first jobs out of college and have
been inseparable ever since! We have experienced most of our lives
important and happiest moments together. We got married in 2006 on the
beautiful island of Nevis in the West Indies. We have a solid
relationship built on respect, commitment, and love. Most people who
know us think we make a good team- we love spending time together and
share many similar interests, and best of all, make each other laugh a
lot. We’d describe ourselves as a fun, down-to-earth, and happy couple.
We have always been strong believers in the gift of adoption and are
committed to building our family through adoption.
We live in a
seaside town in Massachusetts, south of Boston. We love living in New
England and enjoy all our region has to offer. From our home it is easy
to visit the mountains to the north, the ocean, or the country. We live
in a cape-style home with a pretty front and back yard, just two miles
from the beach. Our home is in an ideal spot for children as it is on a
private driveway shared by two neighbors with children. There is plenty
to do in our town for children – great parks, beaches, and excellent
schools. We are just a train ride away from Boston, where we like to
visit the amazing historical sights, museums, restaurants, and sporting
events. We are both animal lovers and we share our home with two very
friendly dogs. Riley is our black Labrador retriever and Zack is our
weimeraner/spaniel mix who came home with us when Tim’s sister brought
him to family thanksgiving and of course, we fell in love with him. Our
pets bring so much joy and laughter to our lives.
About
Tim…I was born in Jamaica, West Indies while my parents were stationed
as missionaries for the Salvation Army. My family moved to Massachusetts
when I was eight and I grew up in a diverse neighborhood of Boston. I
attended public school in Boston and had friends from all over the city
and a wide array of ethnicities. I have worked in the film industry for
fifteen years, running a business that schedules freelance film and
video professionals. I enjoy the ability I have in my job to help people
advance in their careers in the film industry. My job offers me great
autonomy and flexibility to work at home as necessary. Music has been a
big part of my life. All of my siblings and I play musical instruments.
I play trumpet and played in my college marching band. Four of my
siblings and I attended the same university in Massachusetts. My family
loves to go to homecoming football games together in the fall. For fun,
I also enjoy hiking, camping, photography, and cooking.
About Marie…I was
born and raised in Massachusetts. Growing up as an only child, I had a
close relationship with my parents and we spent a lot of time together
gardening, playing tennis, bicycling, and reading. They have provided me
with unconditional support and encouragement throughout my life. I
happily work as a fundraiser for non-profit organizations and love
working for organizations and love working for organizations that make a
difference in people’s lives. I currently work for a toddler-8th
grade school just three miles from home. My job is creative and
rewarding. In addition, it offers a family friendly environment and a
school schedule with holiday breaks and reduced summer hours. This
allows me to pursue some of my hobbies and interests – reading, spending
time with friends and family, playing with our dogs, yoga and gardening.
But we have the
most fun when we are together! One of our favorite activities is walking
on the beach in the evening with our dogs. Living near the ocean, we try
to get to the beach whenever we can. We also like bike riding, watching
funny movies, and playing games together. We both share a passion for
travel. Whether it’s going to another country or just a weekend road
trip, we enjoy exploring new places. We usually take a summer vacation
and rent a cottage on Martha’s Vineyard and of course, our dogs go on
vacation with us! The highlight of our trip is watching the fireworks
over the water on July 4th. On a weekend, you might find us
working in the yard or on home projects, or cooking up new recipes. Tim
is a great amateur photographer, in fact, most of the pictures that
decorate our walls are his photographs. We look forward to introducing a
child to so many of the things we love; nature, travel, family
get-togethers, music, art, pets, cooking, gardening, and so much more!
We enjoy learning
new things and value education greatly. We want to provide the very best
education for your child that we can. Marie works in a Montessori school
with an excellent toddler program where children learn by participating
in hands-on activities. We also believe that education begins at home.
Reading bedtime stories together, going to museums, and playing games
are just some of the additional ways we will support your child’s
education. We will provide opportunities for your child to try new
things, to discover their own talents and passions, and to travel and
learn- About other cultures and places. Their individuality will be
valued and they will be supported in whatever activities interest them.
We are fortunate
to share our lives with caring friends and family. Tim is from a large
family with four sisters, a brother, a half brother, a stepbrother and
sister, and 12 nieces and nephews. Throughout our years together, we
have enjoyed spending time with them on vacations and seeing them grow.
Tim’s mother lives in Rhode Island and regularly attends all of the
family birthday parties. Tim’s father lives with Tim’s brother and
sister in law in New Hampshire. Tim’s family, while spread out among the
New England states, are very close and get together often for holidays
and celebrations. Marie’s parents live twenty minutes away and she sees
them several times a week. Marie has cousins in Massachusetts and New
Hampshire. We have a strong group of very close friends – many of
whom we have known for more than twenty years. We feel lucky to have
such a friendly, fun loving, and supportive network of family and
friends. They can’t wait to welcome a baby into our family!
We know you have
many questions as you consider the family that’s right for your child
and we would be interested in exchanging letters, talking by phone, or
meeting in person to get to know each other better. As adoptive parents,
we welcome open communication and look forward to developing a
relationship with you, to whatever extent you feel comfortable. We are
very much looking forward to filling a child’s life with laughter, love
and opportunities. Thank you for considering us.
Our best wishes,
Marie & Tim |
